| I receive an error when running Log-a-Jog that
says Graphs32.ocx is missing or not
registered or is invalid.The
problem might be because several of 'standard' controls files supplied by Microsoft when
you first installed Windows 95/98/NT may now be out of date and need to updated before you
can run some newer programs. The Graphic Server software that we licensed requires
that several these control files be the most current ones that Microsoft has
released. For your convenience, we have assembled all of the "most
current" files that are authorized by Microsoft and are used by the Graphs32.ocx
program into the file below. Another problem might be that another program you
installed might have replaced Graphs32.ocx or one of the needed Microsoft files with an
older version, thus is causing the problem. Either way, the below
"graphpatch" may resolve the problem for you.
Installing graph patch.exe
Use this patch only if you already have Log-a-Jog
v3.3 installed. If not, please install version 3.3 first, then try this patch.
1. Download the GraphPatch file by clicking on the link below:
graphpatch.exe (<- click on this file)
2. Copy GRAPHPATCH.EXE to your Log-a-Jog Directory.
3. Run (double click on) GRAPHPATCH.EXE to install the new files.
4. Run Log-a-Jog and see if the problem has been resolved

| Log-a-Jog seems to run slow
on my computer, anything I can do? Log-a-Jog's minimum requirements is a
machine capable of running Windows 95/98 or NT. However, we recommend that Log-a-Jog be
run on at least a Pentium class machine with 16 MB of memory. If you are trying to run
Log-a-Jog on a machine such as a 486, you will probably experience slow performance (as
you probably do with many other programs written for higher end machines.) Log-a-Jog has
been designed to run optimally on reasonably configured Pentium machines as it uses the
latest technology available. If you have an older machine, we're afraid we can't offer you
any solutions.

| I receive an error
when running Log-a-Jog about VBAJET32.DLL or MSJET35.DLL being the wrong version. What can
I do about it? This problem usually occurs if another application on your
system had these files in use (without you knowing it) while you installed Log-a-Jog.
Since they were in use, the install program was unable to update them to the correct
version. We have created a small patch to compensate for this problem. Simply download
this file: Jet.EXE and copy it to your
Windows System directory (usually c:/windows/system). Double click on the file to extract
the files, and allow it to overwrite any existing files. The next time you run Log-a-Jog,
you shouldn't encounter this error.

| My run images and/or text don't appear to be lined up correctly on the monthly calendar, what can I do? At
different screen resolutions, the text and images on the monthly calendar may not look
correct with their default position settings. You can adjust the font size, text placement
and image placement from the Preferences screen for each runner. Select the Logbooks menu
at the top of the screen and select "Preferences (selected runner)". About
midway down the screen you can adjust the text and image Top and Left positions. The
center of a day in the calendar (cell) is considered "0". A negative number in
the Left start position will move the image to the left, and a positive will move it
right. A negative number in the Top start position will the text or image up, and a
positive will move it down. At lower resolutions (800x600) you may have to also decrease
your font size to get all three lines of text to appear on the calendar.

| How do I
reinstall (after a disk crash) or on a new computer? We
designed Log-a-Jog so that you can re-install it in case of computer problems. Also when
you move to another computer, Windows requires that all components (3rd party tools that
we use, like OCXs and DLLs) be installed in the Windows Registry (they can't just be
copied).
Typically, you can just download our current version and recover your backed up Logbook
data ... then be back in business. You should also be able to re-enter you old
registration codes (as long as your name hasn't changed) and they should still work ... if
not, contact me and I'll new codes if needed. See below for suggestions concerning how to
re-install and perhaps restore any backup data you may have.
- - - - - - - -
Un-Install
- - - - - - - - -
1. Backup your data files by copying the files below to a floppy or another directory
(just copy them using Windows Explorer)
preferences.mdb
defaults.vcr
your_name.mdb (where "your_name" is the name you entered when you created your
own logbook)
2. Do a "full" un-install of Log-a-Jog by
click on your "Start" button (lower left corner)
click on "Settings"
click on "Control Panel"
click on "Add/Remove Programs"
locate "LogaJog" and click on "Add/Remove"
(note you may have a older versions like 2.4 or 3.x so please scroll up and down to
find all versions and remove them too)
3. Reboot your computer.
- - - - - - - - -
Re-Install
- - - - - - - -
Starting over again. If you follow the steps below, we might be able to retain your
existing information (so that you won't have to re-enter it all again).
1. Go to our page (www.logajog.com) and download a fresh copy of Log-a-Jog and install
it.
2. Run the new version of Log-a-Jog. Then restore the 3 backed up files above
(copy them to your version 3.2 directory if you wish)
Of course, if you do not have the backup data files, then you really are starting over
again ... and skip the stuff below and go straight to step #4. If you do have backup data,
then continue reading this step.
The "preferences" and "defaults" files control who is the default
runner (which is now back to the "sample" runner instead of you). They also
contain your registration information (which was reset back to being an unregistered
user). When you restore these two files, you should automatically be reset as the default
runner and your copy of Log-a-Jog should be registered (as long as you are still on the
same computer). Start Log-a-Jog and see if you are now the default runner and that you can
see all of your old data ... if so, jump to Step #4.
If copying the 3 files into your new Log-a-Jog directory didn't make you the default
runner, then follow the steps below to recover your logbook by adding yourself self as a
new runner and re-enter your registration codes
(a) Click on Logbooks on the top of the screen.
(b) Click on "Select another runner".
(c) Click on the "Add New Runner" button.
(d) CAREFULLY enter you name ... exactly the way you entered the first time you set up
your logbook.
If in doubt, use your Windows tools to browse your Log-a-Jog directory. Look for a file
that has a form of your name (ie, "your_name.mdb"). Once you find it, if you
enter your name as a new runner (do not enter the "_" between your first and
last name and also do not enter the ".mdb"). If you match the file's name
exactly, Log-a-Jog will recognize that this logbook already exists and then will ask if
you want to use it instead of creating a new logbook. Of course, answer "YES"
and Log-a-Jog will then use this existing logbook , thus restoring all of your old data.
4. Find the e-mail we sent you with your Registration Codes and Serial Number. You can
re-enter these codes as long as you are still using the same computer that you were when
you registered Log-a-Jog and your Windows Login name has not changed. If you can't find
your codes, contact us and we will be glad to issue new ones ... but, you must send us the
new Authorization code now displayed on the Registration Screen before we can issue a new
code.

| Can I import my run data
from other run log programs into Log-a-Jog? Because of the number of run
log programs available, and the small niche we serve with Log-a-Jog, we do not currently
have any automatic import features. However, Log-a-Jog uses a standard Microsoft Access
database structure. If you have a copy of the most recent version of Access, and your
existing data is in a format that can be read by Access, you can probably manually import
the data using Access's tools. We have heard from other runners who have imported data
from other run log programs successfully using this method. Log-a-Jog 3 keeps your run
information in a file called <yourname>.mdb (where <yourname> is your name.)

|
| I just installed Log-a-Jog and am getting an OLEAUT32.DLL out of date error ... what should I do? The
problem is related to the install program not being able to update this file because it
may have been in use during the installation. If you restart your computer after the
installation, or receiving the error, it should clear up. If restarting your system does
not clear up the problem, please download OLEPATCH.EXE.
Instructions:
1. Save the OLEPATCH.EXE file to a temporary folder (ie C:\TEMP)
2. Double Click on 'My Computer'
3. Double click on the drive where the temporary folder is located.
4. Double click on the temporary folder
5. Find and double click on the file OLEPATCH.EXE
6. Follow the on-screen instructions

| On
the Monthly Calendar, why can't I see an Event and a run that occur on the same day? While
Log-a-Jog can display the results of multiple runs (or several logbook entries), it cannot
display both an entry from the Event database and the Logbook database at the same time.
We give the Logbook entries priority, so if you add a run on the same day as an
event, the Logbook entry will become the default entry for the display. However, you
can temporarily change what Log-a-Jog displays. On the top of the calendar display
(next to the Print Month button), you will find a pull down selector that lets you change
what is displayed on the Calendar. Using this selector, you can select to see Events
Only. Remember, that if you click on an Event and then click on "Convert to a
Run", your Event information (name, target pace/time, etc.) will automatically
inserted as text in your comments section of the Logbook entry. When an Event is
converted to a Logbook entry, it is not lost. As described above, you can still
display it on the Calendar and also on the Edit/Review Data list screen. When
reviewing a Logbook entry, if the "?" button next to the Date/Time area is RED,
it means there is also an Event for the same day and if you click on this RED
"?", that event will be displayed.

| How do I create a map
of my course? Log-a-Jog has the ability to display and associate a
graphic with each course you run. These graphics may be maps, photos, drawing, etc. If
you'd like to display a map of your course, you can either scan in a map and save it in a
Windows graphics format (bmp, gif, jpg, etc.) or you can use a mapping program such as
DeLorme's AAA Map'n'Go to create the map. Most mapping programs allow you to copy the map
to your clipboard - where you can then paste it into a graphics editing program (like
Paint Brush, Jasc's Paint Shop Pro, etc.) and save it as a Windows graphic file. You can
also take photos with a digital camera, or scan in photos of your course. Log-a-Jog will
automatically scale your graphic to the size of approximately 325x325 (pixels). If your
graphic is not proportionate to these measurements, your graphic will appear disoriented
in Log-a-Jog.

Yes! After you have selected the records you want to publish (by doing a Search), click
on the Print button at the top of the Edit/Review Tab. Choose the report that you want to
publish as a webpage. Select the "Preview on Screen" option. This will bring up
a picture of your report to your screen. There's a button at the top of the preview that
looks like an envelope with an arrow.. this is the Export Button. Click on this button,
and choose your format to be "HTML" (This option will only appear if your system
has an HTML component installed.) Next, just name your new HTML page. You can now include
this file on your personal webpage, to let others view your running progress. You may want
to edit the HTML document (with your favorite webpage editor) to get the fonts, colors and
backgrounds that match your existing site. Remember, you can also copy any chart from
Log-a-Jog as a graphics file, and include it on your webpage.
This same area will also let you export your Log-a-Jog data to other types of files.
We'd also be delighted if you'd consider placing a link from your personal webpage back to
the Log-a-Jog homepage to let others know how you're keeping your run log. Our URL is http://www.logajog.com.

Not all of the buttons
on the Edit/Review Tab are showing up... how can I fix this?
If the Edit/Review tab looks like you are missing some of the buttons (you should have:
New, Delete, Print, Search, All, Runs, Course, Milestones, Types, Shoes & Events) -
then you probably have your screen resolution set to 640x480. Log-a-Jog has been designed
to optimally display at a minimum of 800x600 resolution. You will probably also
notice that some of your Monthly Totals (when viewing the Year Calendar) are chopped off,
as well as some of the graphing options on the Statistics Tab.
To change resolutions, go to your Control Panel in Windows and select
"Display." Choose the "Settings" tab, and set your "Desktop
Area" to 800 by 600 pixels. You will probably have to at least reload Windows
for the changes to take effect. You can also find tools on Microsoft's webpage (such as
"QuickRes") that lets you switch back and forth between settings without
rebooting.

How can I recalculate totals
for Shoes, Types, Course and Milestones?
In Log-a-Jog 2.3 and above, there is an option on the Edit/Review Data tab called
"Reset Totals". This allows you to automatically resync totals in your Shoes,
Types, Course and Milestones databases. Possible reasons why your totals may have gotten
out of sync include: Deleting a Run or recategorizing an existing run by changing the
Shoes, Type, Course or Milestone associated with it.
Now, every time you delete or change a run, you will be prompted to Reset your Totals.

|
Is there a way to add previous
mileage to the total mileage for a pair of shoes?
Yes! There are two ways that we recommend doing this if you have a pair of shoes that
you want to "carry in" mileage for, without having to add all of your previous
runs - simply follow these steps:
Option 1: Carry in Totals in Database
- Click on the Edit/Review Data Tab
- Click on the "Shoes" Button - a listing of all the shoes you've added will
appear.
- You can edit a pair of shoes, or add a new pair from this screen. Bring up the pair of
shoes you want to adjust. You can change any of the totals you want to reflect previous
runs that you don't want to go back and enter.
Note: If you ever Reset Totals, you will loose your carried
in totals. To avoid loosing these totals, please use Option 2.
Option 2: Create a new record representing the cumulative total you want to
bring in
Add a new Log-a-Jog Run with the just the totals that you want to carry in for each
pair of shoes, milestone, course or type of run. This may involve adding several record,
but will prevent your carry in totals from being erased in case you ever Reset Totals.
You can do this with any of the extra databases we track, such as "Type of
Run", "Milestone" or "Course" as well.

This error is caused because at one time or another, you have either installed Visual
Basic 4 or another software package written in Visual Basic 4 that uses an older or
unregistered version of the Graphing Tools we use to produce your graphs & charts in
Log-a-Jog. Visual Basic 4 used to include a limited version of this tool at no charge. We
decided to upgrade the package to be used with Visual Basic 6 (which is what Log-a-Jog is
written in). However, both the newer full version and the old version in Visual Basic 4
have the same name. So, if you installed another package that used the old control, when
you launch Log-a-Jog the Graph Control sees that you have the older version and not the
newer version any more, and thus produces the error.
To correct this problem, follow these instructions:
- Click on the Start Button, and choose "Run"
- Type in : regsvr32 /u graph32.ocx Press ENTER or click OK
- Click on the Start Button again, and choose "Run"
- Type in: regsvr32 /u graphx32.ocx
Press ENTER or click OK
- Click on the Start Button again, and choose "Run"
- Type in: regsvr32 graphx32.ocx Press
ENTER or click OK
- Relaunch Log-a-Jog - you should not get the error anymore.
This will unregister the previous version of the Graphing Control and register the
correct version in your Window's Registry. This should not effect any programs that you
may have that are using the older version of the control. However, we obviously can't take
any responsibility for someone else's programs, and make no guarantees that you'll be able
to run both Log-a-Jog and other programs using an older version of the graphing controls.
(Although, we've not heard any reports of having this problem after performing the above
instructions.) You will probably have to repeat the above steps again if you install or
re-install other programs that use the older graphing control.

How can I track other sports/exercises
in Log-a-Jog?
Log-a-Jog was originally intended as a run/jog tracking tool only. However, we've had
many of you request some flexibility in tracking other kinds of sports and exercises that
may not involve distance/pace. .
We recommend that when you log another type of exercise, that you use the "Type of
Run" field to designate the exercise type. (Aerobics, Jump/Jab, Water Aerobics, Bicep
Curls, Treadmill, Boxing, Swimming, etc.) This will allow you to search for this exercise
type later, and print and view graphs for it. Then, you can use the Course entry to
designate where you performed the exercise (Health Club, Basement, Community Pool, etc.)
On the laps entry, simply key in the amount of time spent doing this activity - if it
makes sense to do so. If there isn't a distance involved, just key in "0"
(zero). (However, if you do key in a distance other than zero, your Runner's Totals will
reflect this entire entry as a "run." when displaying your Runner's
Totals.) You can set up some of your Optional Fields and Comments to record other
information about the activity.
When viewing the monthly calendar or graphs, you'll have the option to display all
activities, those with distance involved, those without distance and events only. When
viewing non-distance related activities on the graph, some options will be turned off -
including distance and pace.
Another tip comes from Anne Johnson, a Log-a-Jog user:
Set up "Anne Swim" and "Anne Bike" as new runners. Anne Swim uses
km (pool measured in meters) while bike and run are in miles. I realize
the calorie computations/etc are for running only, but when all one cares
about is distance and time, this solution fits the bill.
This feature isn't meant to make Log-a-Jog a multi-exercise analysis system - it simply
allows runner's to record other exercise programs. All of the analysis tools are geared
specifically towards running/jogging/walking.

Can I set up a default Type
of Run, Shoes, Course or Milestone?
Yes! Each of these databases have a "Default" option on them. To set it, call
up the Editor for the item that you want to set as your default. You can do this from the
Edit/Review Tab, or from the Logbook entry screen. Check the Default option at the top of
the window. This item will be pre-selected each time you add a run. s

Log-a-Jog 3.2 allows you to set up as many running databases as you need. Each will
retain their own set of preferences, shoes, types, courses and milestones. Currently,
there are no features that allow you to compare one runner to another - however we do have
plans to make this a feature in a future release. To setup an new runner, click on
the "Logbooks" menu at the top of the screen and select "Add New
Runner."

If you have already licensed/purchased a previous version of Log-a-Jog, the upgrade is
free for you to download. (If you would like us to ship you the new version on CD, there
is a $10 shipping/media fee for US addresses - we don't ship internationally.) If you've
not registered Log-a-Jog yet, and you would like to take a look at the new features - you
are free to download v3.4 to evaluate. The registration fee will be $39.95 should you
decide to continue using the program beyond the 20 free entries.

Yes! Log-a-Jog 3.2 supports tracking multiple pairs of shoes. Just like specifying a
course, milestone or type of run, simply select the pair of shoes you ran in, and
Log-a-Jog will keep running totals. You can view your shoe history at anytime on the
Edit/Review screen - which means you can add, delete, edit or print shoes.

What happens to my existing data if I change an Optional Field?
If you change an optional field's setting in Preferences, nothing
happens to your existing data for that field. For instance, if you turn off our Pedometer
readings feature, and reuse those fields for Humidity and Resting Heart Rate, those fields
will not be cleared for existing records. That means that if you previously placed
information in the "Steps" field, and you rename it to "Humidity", you
could now have records with 1100 displayed for Humidity. (Since this is a new feature, we
figured many people would be experimenting with this feature, so we didn't want to risk
having you loose data that you weren't ready to trash.)
After you have changed a field's name, we recommend that you go
to the Statistics Tab, and plot a graph for the field you just changed. If a graph is
produced, you can instantly tell which week or month you have old data stored in for the
old field name. You can then target those previous runs, and manually remove the old data.
Also remember that you can view and edit the Log-a-Jog database files in Microsoft Access
or Excel.
If you have too many runs to adjust manually yourself (and you
don't have Access or Excel), please contact us. We would be happy to have you send us your
Log-a-Jog database, and we'll clear the fields for you and send you back your database
cleaned up. (Each registered Log-a-Jog customer can use this service once at no charge.)
To us, this is a better alternative than having someone accidentally delete all old data,
and not be able to easily recover from it.

Yes! In version 2.1 and above, you have the option in Preferences to start weeks either

displaying the calendars as Monday started weeks. Sorry, this feature is not available in
version 1.4 and below.

Yes, in version 2.1 and above, Log-a-Jog does support different regional settings (such
as Dutch). Regional Settings allow your computer to display and sort dates and numbers
differently, depending on your region and language settings. To change your regional
setting, click on "My Computer" and select "Control Panel." If you're
using version 1.4 or below, you may encounter problems with international regional
settings.

Yes! Log-a-Jog supports all dates that you can select in Microsoft's Windows.
In the Window's Control Panel you'll find the "Regional Settings" Icon.
It lets you pick a default date to use, such as "mm/dd/yy" or
"dd/mm/yy". If you have entered lots of runs in one format, then decide
change to a different default date format, Log-a-Jog will automatically adjust all
existing records to your new format. All date displays (calendars, log entries and
charts) will also automatically adjust themselves.

Yes. Although Log-a-Jog only stores the last milestone you enter, you can update
several milestones while entering a single run. Log-a-Jog will not only add new milestones
as you enter them from a log entry, it will also update as many as you retrieve. Just make
sure that you enter all information about that milestone (distance & time) before
pulling up (or creating) a new one. Here at VCR, we usually update 2 milestones per
run ... but make our best one the last one we enter, so that when we retrieve the whole
entry later, the best milestone is displayed with the run for that day.

You can enter as many runs/activities per day as you would like. You can add the
first run from the Calendar displays. However, to add additional runs for the same day,
you will need to use the "Add Run" button at the top on the Monthly calendar or
the Edit/Review tab. You can also select the "Data" menu at the top of the
screen and select "Add Run" from here as well. You'll be able to see and
retrieve any of those runs when using the LIST (the Edit/Review Data Tab). In
Log-a-Jog 2.1 and above, all runs on one day will be summarized on the monthly calendar.
However in Log-a-Jog 1.4 and below, only information from the last run you entered will be
displayed.

|
|
The Monthly calendar can display up to three lines of text, one graphic and a color.
For distance related activities (runs) - we display your Distance, Pace and Time. If you
had multiple runs, the total number of runs for that day is displayed. For non-distance
related runs, we display the Type of Run name, as well as the total time. For events, the
name of the event is displayed. If the event is a goal or a race, your target pace and
time are also displayed.
If you do not see all three lines of text on your monthly display, you may need to
adjust the font size used and the text placement coordinates. These can be changed on the
Preferences screen (under the Logbook menu). A smaller font will allow more text to be
displayed.

installed there. We also recommend that you supply us with the person's name and E-mail
address you are registering for - in case they need to contact us for support later.
They'll also qualify for free updates, and discounts on future upgrades to Log-a-Jog. The
Authorization Codes are unique to the computer they are installed on. So if you're
evaluating Log-a-Jog on a machine different than the one it will be run on, make sure you
report the Authorization Code for the machine you want it registered on.
If Log-a-Jog is not yet installed on the machine you want to register as a gift, just
drop us an E-mail (logajog@veard.com) or give us a
call (407-722-0220) to place your order. Please provide us with both your billing
information (your name, credit card #, expiration date, billing address, etc.) and
information about the person you are registering Log-a-Jog for (their name, address,
E-mail address, etc.). After they have installed Log-a-Jog, either you or they may contact
us to obtain their Registration Code to enable Log-a-Jog.

Each runner's Log-a-Jog data is stored in a file with their name, ending with the
extension of *.mdb located in your Log-a-Jog directory (defaulted to c:\program
files\logajog). There are also two other files involved, named Preferences.mdb and
Defaults.vcr. We recommend that you back up these files often, by copying them to another
location or floppy disk. You can restore your back-up at any time by simply copying the
files back into the Log-a-Jog directory. If for any reason you need to re-install
Log-a-Jog, make sure you backup these files first!

No - Log-a-Jog does not currently support Macintosh. However, if you are running a
Windows 95 emulator, Log-a-Jog may work. But we have not tested this to verify. (If you
have Log-a-Jog running under this configuration - we'd love to hear from you: info@logajog.com.

Log-a-Jog was written using Microsoft's Visual BASIC-6. We create standard
Microsoft database files. That means you can access our primary database using other
Microsoft products like Access and Excel (for you programmers we use JET's
DAO3032.dll). All of your running information is kept in a database with your name,
followed by the extension ".mdb". You should
routinely back up this file, especially before "playing" with your data using
these other products.

Log-a-Jog v2.1 and above supports the entry of an unlimited number of laps in a run.
However since the display for the lap # is only 2 characters wide, we say you're limited
to 99 laps in a run for display purposes. However, the program will support and calculate
many more than that. Log-a-Jog 1.4 and below provides for entering only 5 laps per logged
entry.
